Psychodrama

Could psychodrama trigger PTSD?

I am very interested in this type of psychology, but I was wondering if sometimes it backfires. I could imagine that if someone was working through a difficult or emotional reenactment that it could possibly stir up too much unresolved feelings and result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Do you think that happens with this form of therapy?

RE: Could psychodrama trigger PTSD?

Psychodrama is a powerful healing method, and like any powerful tool, in the hands of the untrained, it can be very dangerous. Psychodrama should be conducted by licensed mental health professionals with proper training, experience and supervision in psychodrama or those who have been certified by a national psychodrama certification board like the American Board of Examiners in the United States. RE: Could psychodrama trigger PTSD?

PTSD arrives from unresolved feelings. Psychodrama is supposed to bring forth those feelings so they can be dealt with properly. I'd imagine that if someone was back from war, for instance, that psychodrama reenactments involving war would be a bad idea. This is why this type of therapy must be performed by professionals; they would know what was effective and what was damaging. Perhaps this same hypothetical person would instead work through an argument he had with his drill sergeant.
