Condition - ADD

AubreyJ responded to Discussion - OPC3 for treatment of ADD

Nutritional treatments for ADD and ADHD are becoming more accepted because of studies indicating there is a connection between ADD and diet. This link (http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:S18juwvr7UgJ:www.efalexfocus.com/art1.html+antioxidants+and+adhd+and+purdue&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us) talks about Purdue University studies that found children with ADD often had lower levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids in their bodies. It's significant because these fatty acids are needed for normal brain function. Antioxidants help protect the fatty acids in the body from breaking down, which might explain why some parents find that supplementing with the strong antioxidants such as OPC3 have improved their childrens' behavior. I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but it does seem to make sense to keep a child with ADD on a diet without refined and processed foods, because foods like that stress the body in so many ways.
